La Bakénia, Oasis of peace!

The fun already starts in the 5¼ acres garden around the house, an oasis of peace and space. In the shade under the trees you attach the hammock that we provide. On the lawn you play a game of "KUBB" or Mölkky", a fun party game for young and old. For the children there is a swing on an old oak tree. In our game forest you will find games such as horseshoe throwing, cornhole game, darts and much more. Try to find our geocache. It is already waiting for you.
In the information maps you will find beautiful walks and bike rides that start from home. In the evening, a nice barbecue with the whole family at the pool.

The river Lot, a tributary of the Garonne, flows through green, slightly sloping landscapes. In the Quercy this soft valley is famous for its vineyards, especially those of the wine region of Cahors. Penne d'Agenais with its basilica is a beautiful hilltop village. Monflanquin, a medieval village in the heart of the plum region. the castle of Cénevières, castle and renaissance palace; Agen and Villeneuve sur Lot, So many wonders in the Lot valley that you may not miss! A cruise by boat on the water of the Lot is also a great way to discover the many treasures of this valley.

Villeneuve-sur-Lot was founded in 1253 by Alphonse of Poitiers, the brother of St Louis. Enjoying a favourable location straddling the Lot river, it was once an important trading town and one of the most powerful bastides in southwest France.
The town has preserved a number of architectural reminders of its rich past, including the 13th-century Pont Vieux (old bridge), which forms a picturesque scene with Notre-Dame du Bout du Pont chapel; Place Lafayette, a central square edged with arcades (cornières); and Pujols and Paris gates, remains of the ancient fortifications. More recent in style is the beautiful Sainte-Catherine church, which was consecrated in 1937. This brick- and stone-built Byzantine-Romanesque-style building boasts magnificent 14th- and 15th-century stained glass windows taken from the old church.

This small fortified town is a charming place to wander around with narrow flower-bedecked streets overlooked by beautiful houses, an old well, fortified gates, Saint-Nicolas and Sainte-Foy churches, a covered market hall where a local produce market takes place on Sunday mornings from May to September, and a panoramic view of the Lot valley.
As well as being home to some listed 15th-century frescoes, Sainte-Foy church holds regular art exhibitions.

Dominated by the Byzantine-Romanesque-style Notre-Dame de Peyragude basilica, recognisable from afar by its silver dome, Penne-d'Agenais's old quarter is a charming place for a stroll, with narrow sloping streets lined with pretty houses, Place Paul Froment – a pleasant square to stop in for a drink – and many arts and crafts workshops.
There's a fantastic view over the Lot valley from the viewpoint indicator near the basilica!

The bastide town of Monflanquin, which overlooks the Haut Agenais region and Lède valley from its hilltop position, was founded in 1256 by Alphonse, Count of Poitiers and Toulouse and brother of St Louis and today enjoys "One of France's Most Beautiful Villages" status.
The town features a magnificent central square bordered by arcades. Note the interesting gemel windowed facade of the elegant 14th-century Maison du Prince Noir.
This medieval bastide town is traversed by a network of carrerots – picturesque, narrow pedestrian streets crossed by little house-to-house bridges. It is also home to a Gothic cathedral.
Worth a visit is the Musée des Bastides, a fun, interactive museum all about the medieval new towns built in southwest France in the 13th and 14th centuries.
A market has taken place every Thursday morning in the Place des Arcades (arcaded main square) since 1256! A local producers' market is also held on Thursday evenings in July and August.
On 15 August, the Médiévales de Monflanquin festival takes inhabitants and tourists back to the Middle Ages with entertainment, shows, processions, a market and a medieval banquet.

A walk through its historic centre takes in emblematic places like the very lively Place des Laitiers square, the arcaded Rue des Cornières, Rue Beauville with its old half-timbered, corbelled houses, Saint-Caprais cathedral – home to colourful 19th-century frescoes – and a fine art museum (Musée des Beaux-Arts). The latter is housed in four Renaissance town houses and contains remarkable collections of archaeology, paintings, sculptures and decorative arts, including an exceptional group of canvases by Goya and the famous Vénus du Mas d'Agenais sculpture. An absolutely must-see museum!
Gravier esplanade along the Garonne is a lovely place for a walk and very popular among the town's inhabitants, with plane trees, lawns and paths. To the north is the majestic 539-m long canal bridge that takes the Canal Latéral à la Garonne over the Garonne river.
The Grand Pruneau Show on the last weekend of August is a big festival dedicated to the famous Agen prune, with prune tastings, a gourmet market, shows, concerts and so on.

Built on a peninsula by the River Lot, the old town of Cahors offers a pleasant atmosphere with its narrow streets and its architecture. Symbol of the city, the Valentré bridge built in the 14th century is today a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
This magnificent fortified structure with arches and cutwaters is the only bridge in the world to have three towers! You can get a perfect view of the Valentré bridge from the pretty riverbank or on board one of the boats which navigate the meanders of the River Lot.
In the lively old town, the majestic Saint-Etienne cathedral, topped by two domes, possesses a beautiful Romanesque portal with carved tympanums. Not far, the public garden Olivier-de-Magny lined by beautiful old houses, the Roaldès mansion, and the numerous narrow shopping lanes make Cahors a very pleasant place, especially since the medieval town is also a gastronomic centre with among others its famous red wine.

These prestigious residences built in the 16th century by rich pastel traders are a reminder of the city's prosperity in the days of the pastel trade. This dye-producing plant used to be grown in the plains around the Lauragais. Among the most beautiful Renaissance buildings of the city are : the Assézat mansion, which is today home to the Bemberg foundation, a private museum hosting a collection of paintings; the Bernuy mansion flanked with an octagonal tower; The Vieux-Raisin mansion; the Clary mansion or Pierre mansion.
An essential place to see is the Place du Capitol, the heart of the city. This very bustling square is surrounded by beautiful buildings such as the Capitol, a prestigious, 8-columned 16th-century building housing the town hall and theatre. Behind it is a 16th-century keep, the former Archives tower, which is today the main tourist office.
Next to be visited are the remarkable religious monuments of the old town: the Saint-Sernin basilica and its octagonal bell tower, a masterpiece of Romanesque art; the Jacobins cloister, a gem of Languedoc Gothic art, with its beautiful brick-built church and its main cloister building.

Renowned worldwide for its famous vineyards, the capital of the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region also has a prestigious architectural heritage. An 18th-century gem, the City of Art and History of Bordeaux, a World Heritage Site since 2007, takes visitors back to the Enlightenment. A remarkable urban and architectural ensemble to enjoy on a sightseeing walk along the quays of the Garonne, its elegant streets and imposing town squares. Must-see places inherited from this period include the lively Place de la Comédie with its neoclassical Grand Theatre adorned with majestic Corinthian columns, Place de la Bourse with its fountain of the Three Graces, and the Allées de Tourny.
Strolling through the historic centre is also a great way to discover medieval Bordeaux: Saint-André Cathedral with its carved portals, Gothic choir and Renaissance organ loft, the imposing Cailhau door dedicated to Charles VIII, the Holy Cross (Sainte-Croix) Church with a façade carved in the Saintonge Romanesque style, and the door of the Great Bell (Grosse Cloche), the belfry of the old City Hall, are all reminders of this time. A bell tower separated from St Andrew's Cathedral, the 15th-century Pey Berland tower, offers breathtaking views of the roofs and spires of the city. Although this view must be earned by climbing the 231 steps of the narrow spiral staircase! Not far from this Gothic gem lies the famous pedestrian street of Rue Sainte-Catherine, a long commercial street popular with shoppers, which connects Place de la Victoire to Place de la Comédie.
Garden lovers will prefer the banks of the Garonne, where the lovely Enlightenment Garden (Jardin des Lumières) stretches out on both sides of the beautiful water mirror. 

Sarlat

Its medieval old town is the perfect place to wander around with its maze of picturesque narrow streets and Gothic and Renaissance mansions, such as the Plamon mansion, the Magnanat mansion, and the Vassal mansion.
The Saturday market is particularly lively and should not be missed!
